Casa Franca, Gagliano del Capo (Province of Lecce)
House with star vaults, small balcony and sea-view terrace – for 2 guests
Just a few steps from Piazza San Rocco, in the heart of the village, a narrow alley leads to the entrance of Casa Franca. Climb the typical steep staircase of a Salento house and you reach a 36 m² living space defined by its mosaic floor, impressive star-vaulted ceiling (4.5 m high), and the characteristic Salento fireplace integrated into the kitchen. From the bedroom balcony, the sea comes into view.
The compact kitchen is fully equipped and features a door-window overlooking the quiet alley. The living area includes a dining space and sofa bed; the double bedroom (with two single beds) opens onto the small sea-view balcony. A bathroom, washing machine, and heating ensure comfort during the stay. The highlight is the rooftop terrace: a simple sitting corner crafted from stone and wood. Before letting your gaze wander across the Adriatic toward Greece, pause for a deep breath — calm and pleasure naturally follow.
From the house, a scenic 20-minute walk along a steep path lined with olive and fig trees, caper bushes, and traditional pajare stone huts leads to the beautiful Ciolo cove, part of the Regional Natural Park Costa Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca and Bosco di Tricase. From Ciolo, you can explore sea caves, small harbors, and fishing villages, or swim in the clear waters among the rocks. Sandy beaches can be found a few kilometers away, toward Pescoluse, Salve, Ugento, and up to Gallipoli.
The charm of Gagliano del Capo lies in its location at the southern edge of Italy’s heel. Only 60 kilometers separate it from Lecce, the capital of Baroque architecture. Here, between the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas, you find yourself at finibus terrae — at land’s end — where myth once pointed toward Greece.
